When I was working as a full-time freelancer, I used to wonder how come that I could deliver so much compared to my friends who work at bigger companies. So I realized it’s not all about productivity. At big organizations and companies, workflows and decision-making are much more complicated, so there is a significant amount of time and energy wasted on work behind the work. It’s obvious that when you’re doing something solo, you are much faster. But this does not mean teams should always be slow. So if a team is too slow, then they should work on their structure and operations.
But with all I said again, I think:
Value > Work behind the work
Seeing your faults in others makes you realize you do, too! Especially in the tech industry. Geeks used to engineer things that are not that effective for the whole system and their goals.
Start with ends (teams)
- Does the team structure is clear (defined responsibilities, clear goals)
- What should it look like when it's done?
- How success of this project look like?
Solo Working
- What exactly does the client expect from me?
- What do I except for working on this project? how this can satisfy me?
